Independence

I'll be celebrating more than this country's independence this weekend. My divorce became final on June 21, 2010. I'm grateful that it's finally finished, but the State of Oregon needs to change its modis operandi when it comes to these situations.

I had to keep calling my attorney, who had no clue why it hadn't been signed, for about 5 weeks. Now, in Oregon, you can waive the 90 day waiting period and your uncontested divorce can be finalized in 2-3 weeks. Mine was filed on April 16 and was signed on June 21. Longer than the norm. Heaven knows why. I paid the State $300 and now I have to fill out paperwork requesting a certified copy of the Judgment and pay for that, too. Shouldn't they just send you a copy and that fee be included in the $300? How about a courtesy call telling me I was finally divorced on the 21st, instead of me pestering the courthouse (told on the 22nd that it was still in with the Judge) and my attorney and FINALLY on the 24th of June I find out it was completed.

I hope I can receive the paperwork more quickly. I need to get my driver's license, bank info changed, and a passport. Clock is ticking! Need this stuff now. At this rate, it'd be easier for me to drive the 3 hours to Portland and pick up the paperwork! Geeze.

Get me some scissors. Red tape needs trimming.

Gratitude

I'm so grateful for each and every day that allows me to see the wonders, beauty and promise that this world has to offer. Each day brings it's joys, sorrows, and opportunities for growth. No matter the day - be it challenging, seemingly inharmonious, or peace filled... there's a lesson to be learned or gift to be given. :~)

Ahhhh....

After much research, planning and pure dumb luck, I found a fantastic laptop! HP Pavilion Entertainment PC - 4 gig memory, 500 gig hard drive, 2.16 ghz processor - all for a lovely $598 on sale from $748 at Walmart, of all places. I was planning on a 320 gig hard drive, same memory and about the same processor speed for $698 - but they were all out. Go figure. So now I've got new internet access through Comcast and with what I saved, I bought a nice Cisco wireless router and I'm good to go!! Like I said... "Ahhhh..." Now, after configuring, tweaking, installing, chatting, emailing and playing movies, I'm going to get some much needed sleep... later, y'all!

Happy Birthday to Me!

I can hardly believe how time flies when you are growing, having fun, making choices (good and bad) and learning from them. I "am" 50 today. Don't feel it. Most say I don't look it (even tho I quit coloring my hair - I might be able to get away with looking 40... ha ha ha).

I'm not focusing on the disappointments of the day. My dear daughter-in-law said, "Don't let any little worms interfere with your day..." What a wise woman.

So - after taking care of chores around the house, I'll be out the rest of the day exploring McMinnville, OR and have a lovely dinner and perhaps a movie... whatever strikes my fancy!
